Getting to Cabrera

Cabrera is situated on the North Coast of the Dominican Republic, the larger part of the island of Hispaniola which it shares with Haiti.  One of the many advantages of the Dominican Republic and, as a result Cabrera, is that it is only a short direct flight from many U.S. cities and there is a choice of airports within easy reach of the town using good roads.  Cabrera is not a “resort” town.  There are no “All Inclusive” hotels here so the package tour holidaymakers are catered for elsewhere in the country.

The Dominican Republic is served by many major airlines including  American, Continental, Delta, Jet Blue, Spirit Airlines, British Airways, Iberia and Air Europa and the three main airports to consider are Puerto Plata (POP), Santo Domingo (SDQ) or Santiago (STI).  From the Aeropuerto Internacional Gregorio Luperon, Puerto Plata you will have a journey of approximately 50 miles on a straight road to Cabrera, taking just over an hour.  From The Las Americas Airport in Santo Domingo the journey time is about two hours but for much of this you are on a fairly new toll road in good condition and this does allow you to see some of the Dominican countryside and agriculture including banana plantations and rice fields as well as the Haitises National Park. The Aeropuerto Internacional del Cibao at Santiago is also about a two hour journey from Cabrera with a choice of routes but none of these are direct and on occasions over not so well maintained roads. You can find maps showing the location of Cabrera as well as the airports and roads on our maps page.

Arriving in Cabrera and getting to your accommodation will, of course, depend on which airport you have come from and where you are staying.  If you have taken advantage of the transfer option or are coming by taxi you will be taken directly to where you are staying.  If you have hired a car no doubt you will have been given directions from the airport and a contact telephone number in case you should get lost en route, however, Cabrera is a small town so getting lost here is virtually impossible.
